Check Engine Code
P0014
"B" Camshaft Position — Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
What P0014 means
P0014 is the exhaust-cam twin of P0011. The ECM has detected that the Bank 1 exhaust camshaft is advanced beyond the commanded position, typically during a VVT actuation event.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Rough idle
- Loss of low-end torque
- Reduced fuel economy
Likely causes (most common first)
- Dirty or low engine oil
- Failed exhaust VVT oil control solenoid
- Clogged oil passage to the exhaust cam phaser
- Worn camshaft phaser
- Timing chain stretch (common on GM 2.4L, Ford 3.5L Ecoboost, and some VAG engines)
Can I keep driving?
Drivable, but a stretched timing chain is a ticking clock. Change oil + filter first, re-scan. If the code comes back, plan for a shop visit.
Typical repair cost
DIY fixes can start near $0 (parts only). Shop repairs for P0014 typically run up to $500 depending on the underlying cause and vehicle. Start with the most common cause — Dirty or low engine oil — before throwing parts at it.
